Become a Recycling Pro – an initiative of the Association of the Corrugated Cardboard Industry (VDW)
News | 22/05/2024
Recycling is a joint task that benefits everyone. The Association of the Corrugated Cardboard Industry (VDW) has therefore launched the initiative “Become a Recycling Pro – With Corrugated Cardboard.” The aim is to improve the recycling of corrugated cardboard and to preserve the environmentally friendly cycle. And the best thing about it is: everyone can help!
What is it all about?
Corrugated cardboard is reliable and protects its contents. Its fluted structure ensures high stability and a low weight. In addition, corrugated cardboard consists mainly of plant-based raw materials, in particular recycled paper, which accounts for over 80 percent of the paper used and can be recycled up to 20 times.
After use, corrugated cardboard belongs in the recycling paper bin (in Germany, ideally in the blue bin), where its recycling cycle begins. The return rate for paper and cardboard is up to 80 percent1, while the recycling rate for corrugated cardboard reaches an impressive 95.3 percent2. This makes used corrugated cardboard a coveted raw material and essential in an exemplary circular economy.
How can everyone become a Recycling Pro?
Everyone can help to make the material cycle even more efficient. If your paper bin fills up quickly, it helps to break up the packaging: fold and tear the cardboard boxes at the folded edges to make the best possible use of the space. Breaking up packaging means that more can fit in the bin and new packaging can be created from old packaging. With these simple steps, everyone can actively contribute to the recycling process!
For waste disposal companies, the packaging industry and retailers
Waste disposal companies, the packaging industry and retailers are also able to actively take part in the initiative of the Association of the Corrugated Cardboard Industry (VDW) “Recycling Pros.” They can use the campaign material to make the message visible on bins and packaging.
