75 years of THIMM: Tree planting campaigns at all company sites
News | 03/05/2024
Family business Thimm is celebrating its 75th anniversary: in 1949, Walter Felix Thimm founded the packaging company, which is now run by his grandson Kornelius Thimm in the third generation of the family. To mark the anniversary, this year employees at all 12 sites in Germany and other European countries are planting new trees for the local forests.
“As a family business, it is very important to us to improve the regions around our sites, because we ourselves are a very regionally oriented company. The 75th anniversary is more than just a reason to celebrate, it’s also an occasion for us to make a sustainable contribution to the environment and at the same time create a special experience for our employees and their families. The local forests are not only important for climate protection, but also a fundamental part of our region – and we want to help preserve them,” emphasises CEO Kornelius Thimm.
Campaigns at all sites
From February to April, almost all of our sites in Germany, Romania, the Czech Republic and Poland organised a day of action for employees and their families to roll up their sleeves and plant trees together, with one site to follow in autumn. The small trees were planted by hand into prepared holes, and even the youngest children were able to lend a hand. With their leaves and needles, trees act like giant filters for fine dust and CO2 and thus clean the air. Reforestation is generally regarded as an important measure to counteract the far-reaching negative impacts of the loss of forests on the climate, soil and biodiversity.
Thimm manufactures sustainable packaging and promotional displays made from corrugated cardboard. The natural and renewable raw material for corrugated cardboard is paper, which in turn is predominantly made from recycled wastepaper. By recycling corrugated cardboard packaging, everyone can therefore make an important contribution to greater sustainability. Thimm only uses paper with a fresh fibre content, made from windfall and thinning timber, for special requirements. “Even though we mainly use wastepaper for our packaging, we naturally feel a strong connection to the forest as the source of our products. We want to underline this once again with these campaigns. We are very pleased that we have been able to experience such a special campaign with our employees and their families and create something really great together – both here in Northeim and at all our other sites,” says Kornelius Thimm in summary.
